Why General Luna Is the Perfect Base for Scooter Exploration

General Luna (GL, as locals call it) sits on the southeastern coast of Siargao Island, roughly in the middle of the tourist zone. From General Luna, almost everything worth seeing on the island is reachable by scooter in under two hours:

Everything is connected by paved roads. There are no ferries required for any of these destinations. You just get on your scooter and go.

Getting Around General Luna — Why a Scooter Beats Every Alternative

vs Tricycles

Tricycles are the local transport workhorse and excellent for very short hops within General Luna — from your hotel to a restaurant, for example. But for anything beyond GL's immediate center, they're expensive on a per-trip basis, rarely available late in the evening, and require you to negotiate fares. A scooter costs less over a full day of exploration than three or four tricycle trips.

vs Habal-Habal (Motorcycle Taxis)

Once common on the island, habal-habal services have become increasingly scarce and inconsistent in General Luna. They're harder to find, prices have risen, and they share the same limitation as tricycles: you're dependent on someone else's schedule and availability.

vs Private Van Hire

Private van hire with a driver is excellent for groups of 4+ and for specific day trips like a full north coast tour. But at ₱2,500–4,000+ for a private vehicle, it's expensive for solo or pair travelers, and it removes the spontaneity that makes Siargao special. You can't stop on a whim, detour down a side road, or linger somewhere longer than planned when you have a driver waiting.

vs Renting a Scooter from a Shop

Traditional scooter rental shops require you to travel to their location, fill out paperwork, and ride off from their premises. With Scooter Siargao, we bring the scooter to you. Your first morning in General Luna is spent at the beach, not in a rental shop.

General Luna's Best Scooter Routes — Starting From Your Hotel

Morning Routine — The Cloud 9 Run (5 min each way)

One of the great daily pleasures of staying in General Luna: riding down Tourism Road in the early morning to check the surf at Cloud 9. The boardwalk is the best viewpoint on the island, the light is extraordinary before 8am, and there are almost no tourists at that hour. Park at the boardwalk, walk out, watch the waves, grab a coffee from one of the warung-style cafes opening up, and ride back for breakfast at your resort. The Honda Beat handles this perfectly.

Half-Day North — General Luna to Magpupungko (45 min each way)

Siargao's most popular day attraction, and for good reason. The natural rock pools at Magpupungko fill with crystal-clear seawater at low tide, creating a series of natural swimming pools of extraordinary beauty. Leave General Luna by 8am, ride north through Dapa and along the coast road through Pilar. Arrive at low tide (check tide tables before you go), swim, explore, and be back in General Luna for a late lunch. The Honda Click 125 or Fazzio is ideal for this route.

Afternoon South — General Luna to Santa Fe (20 min each way)

The coastal road to Santa Fe is one of the most beautiful short rides on the island. The road hugs the coast with views of turquoise water and coconut palms, passing small fishing communities and local warungs. Santa Fe itself is quieter and more local than General Luna — good for a fresh seafood lunch and a swim on a less crowded beach. Leave around 3pm when the afternoon light is perfect and return to GL for dinner.

Full Day — The North Coast Road Trip (all day)

General Luna → Cloud 9 → Magpupungko → Burgos → Pacifico → Del Carmen → General Luna. The island's classic full-day circuit covers 120km of roads and takes you through every type of terrain Siargao offers. Pack water, snacks, sunscreen, and a waterproof bag. Leave by 7:30am. The Honda Click 125 or Yamaha Fazzio are the right bikes for this adventure.

General Luna — Key Roads and Navigation Tips

For first-time riders in General Luna, here's a quick orientation:

Tourism Road

The main spine of General Luna, running roughly north-south parallel to the coast. Most hotels, restaurants, and surf shops are on or near Tourism Road. This is where you'll spend most of your General Luna riding time — traffic is moderate during peak hours (8–10am, 5–7pm) but manageable.

The Cloud 9 Road

South from the center of General Luna, passing the famous surf break and continuing to Catangnan Beach. Well-paved, straightforward, and beautiful.

Dapa Road (North)

Heading north from General Luna toward Dapa and then further to Magpupungko and beyond. The main arterial road for north coast exploration. Well-maintained through Dapa, with good signage to Pilar and Magpupungko.

The Santa Fe Road (Southwest)

From the western edge of General Luna, following the coast toward Malinao and Santa Fe. Quieter than the north road, with beautiful coastal scenery. Note that some sections between Malinao and Santa Fe can be narrower — ride carefully and be alert to oncoming traffic on blind corners.

Where to Park Your Scooter in General Luna

Parking in General Luna is informal — there are no structured car parks or paid parking zones as of 2026. Scooters can be parked:

Always use your steering lock when leaving the scooter unattended. Scooter theft is not common on Siargao, but it's a sensible precaution.

Fuel in General Luna

There are several fuel stations in and around General Luna. The most convenient is on the main Dapa Road heading north. Current prices are approximately ₱52–72 per liter as of mid-2026. On any scooter in our fleet, a full tank costs ₱200–280 and covers 160–220km — more than enough for a day of island exploration from General Luna as your base.

Safety in and Around General Luna

General Luna's Tourism Road is the busiest road on the island, particularly during peak hours. A few specific things to be aware of:
