Where Is Santa Fe and Why Should You Go?

Santa Fe sits on Siargao's southwestern coast, approximately 15km from General Luna by road. The route follows the coastline for much of its length, with views of the Siargao Channel on one side and coconut palm groves on the other. The roads are paved, the traffic is light, and the scenery is consistently stunning — particularly in the late afternoon when the light turns golden over the water.

Santa Fe itself is a small, largely residential community with a natural sandbar beach, several excellent local seafood restaurants, and none of the tourist infrastructure of General Luna. It's Siargao as it was before the surf culture took over — and that's precisely its appeal.

The Coastal Road — General Luna to Santa Fe by Scooter

Leave General Luna heading southwest, past the junction for Malinao. The road narrows slightly as you leave the main tourist zone but remains paved and well-maintained. You'll pass small fishing villages, coconut groves, and occasional glimpses of the ocean before the road opens up along the coast. Slow down and take it in — this is one of Siargao's most beautiful rides.

The full distance from General Luna to Santa Fe is approximately 15–18km and takes around 20–25 minutes by scooter at a comfortable pace. Any model in our fleet handles this route easily, including the Honda Beat.

What to Do in Santa Fe

The main draw is the natural sandbar — a spit of white sand that extends into the turquoise water of the channel. At low tide, it's one of the most photogenic spots on the island. The water is calm and safe for swimming, and the beach is rarely crowded, even during peak season. Bring a mat, a book, and a bag of snacks from the General Luna market, and you have a perfect half-day.

Santa Fe also has several excellent local seafood restaurants serving fresh catch at prices significantly lower than General Luna. Grilled tuna, kinilaw, rice, and a cold San Miguel — eaten overlooking the water on a quiet afternoon — is one of Siargao's authentic pleasures.

Best Time to Ride to Santa Fe

Late afternoon is magical — leave General Luna around 3–4pm, arrive in Santa Fe for sunset over the channel, have dinner at a local seafood restaurant, and ride back to General Luna in the early evening. The road is safe and well-lit through the main sections. Just be back before it gets fully dark — nighttime riding on Siargao's rural roads is not recommended.

Alternatively, an early morning ride — leaving General Luna at sunrise — gives you the coastal road in perfect light with almost zero traffic. Arrive in Santa Fe as the fishing boats come in, grab breakfast at a local turo-turo, and spend the morning on the sandbar before the heat of the afternoon.
