Why Rent a Scooter in Siargao?
Scooter rental options in Siargao Island 2026
Siargao is a relatively small island โ you can ride from General Luna to the northern tip in about 90 minutes โ but its geography is such that a scooter opens up a completely different experience than relying on tricycles or shared vans.
There is no Grab, no Uber, no public bus system. Your realistic options for getting around are: tricycles (short hops within General Luna), habal-habal (motorcycle taxis, increasingly rare), private van hire (expensive for solo travelers), or renting your own scooter. For anyone staying more than two days, renting a scooter almost always makes the most sense financially and practically.
With a scooter, you can:
- Leave for Cloud 9 at sunrise before the crowds arrive
- Detour down a palm-lined dirt track on a whim
- Stop at the Dapa market at 7am for fresh tuna before the day heats up
- Reach Magpupungko Rock Pools exactly when the tide drops โ without relying on anyone else's schedule
- Ride the coastal road from General Luna to Santa Fe and feel completely free
That freedom is irreplaceable. No tour group, no fixed departure time, no waiting for a van to fill up.
Scooter Rental Prices in Siargao โ 2026 Rates
Prices vary by model, operator, and rental duration. Here are the current rates from Scooter Siargao, accurate as of mid-2026:
| Model | Engine | Daily Rate | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honda Beat | 110cc | โฑ300 / day | Automatic |
| Honda Click 125 | 125cc | โฑ350 / day | Automatic |
| Yamaha Fazzio | 125cc | โฑ400 / day | Automatic |
Minimum rental: 2 days. All rentals include free delivery to General Luna, Santa Fe, and Malinao, and a helmet is always included.
Across the island, you'll find daily rates ranging from โฑ300 to โฑ600 depending on the model and operator. Automatic scooters like the Honda Beat sit at the lower end of the market, while larger-engine bikes or premium models like the Yamaha Fazzio or Honda ADV command higher prices. Weekly rentals typically offer a discount of 10โ20% compared to the daily rate โ always worth asking about if you're staying for a week or more.
The Three Best Scooters for Siargao โ 2026
Scooter Siargao key handover delivery service
Honda Beat 110cc โ The Budget-Friendly Choice
The Honda Beat is the most common scooter on the island, and for good reason. It's light, nimble, fuel-efficient, and perfectly sized for Siargao's mostly flat roads. At โฑ300/day, it's the most affordable option for solo riders or couples traveling light. The 110cc engine is more than enough for daily rides around General Luna and the main tourist circuits. For heavier riders or long-distance rides to Pacifico with a passenger, you may find the power slightly limited on inclines.
Honda Click 125cc โ The All-Rounder
The Honda Click 125 is our most popular rental. The extra 15cc makes a real difference on longer routes โ smoother acceleration, more confident overtaking, and more comfortable with a passenger. It sits at โฑ350/day and is the sweet spot between price and performance for most visitors. If you're planning to ride to Magpupungko, Pacifico, or spend several days exploring different parts of the island, this is the model we recommend.
Yamaha Fazzio 125cc โ The Premium Option
The Yamaha Fazzio is the newest and most stylish model in our fleet. With its retro-modern design, larger underseat storage, and smooth 125cc engine, it's the premium choice for riders who want comfort and style. At โฑ400/day, it's the most expensive but also the most enjoyable for long rides. If you're doing a full-day north coast road trip or simply want the best ride on the island, the Fazzio is hard to beat.
Do You Need a License to Rent a Scooter in Siargao?
This is the most frequently asked question we receive, so let's be completely clear about it.
Yes โ a valid driver's license is legally required to ride a scooter in Siargao.
Under Philippine law, you need a motorcycle license to operate any motorized two-wheeler. For foreign visitors, your home country driver's license is valid in the Philippines for up to 90 days from your date of arrival โ as long as it covers motorcycles or scooters in your home country.
If your license is not in English, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is strongly recommended. Police checkpoints in General Luna and on the road to Dapa specifically check for licenses and helmets. Riding without a valid license can result in a fine of โฑ3,000 or more and potential confiscation of the scooter.
Some rental operators on the island do not ask for a license โ but that does not remove your legal liability if you have an accident. More importantly, your travel insurance will almost certainly be void if you're riding without a valid license. Don't take the risk.
How We Deliver Your Scooter โ The Scooter Siargao Model
Riding scooter safely on Siargao roads
Most rental operators in Siargao require you to come to their shop, fill out paperwork, and ride off from their location. We do things differently.
With Scooter Siargao, we deliver your scooter directly to your hotel or resort โ free of charge within General Luna, Santa Fe, and Malinao. Here's how it works:
- Message us on WhatsApp with your hotel name, arrival date, rental duration, and preferred scooter model
- We confirm availability and send you your booking details, usually within minutes
- We deliver to your accommodation at the agreed time, helmet included
- You ride โ no queue, no shop visit, no wasted time on your first day
This model works especially well in combination with our Arrival Package โ where we pair the scooter delivery with an airport shuttle transfer from Siargao Airport (IAO) to your hotel. You land, we drive you to your accommodation, and your scooter is waiting there or delivered shortly after. One WhatsApp message sorts everything.
Safety on Siargao Roads โ What Every Rider Needs to Know
Siargao's roads are mostly paved and in reasonable condition on the main tourist routes. But there are important hazards every rider should understand before setting off.
Road Conditions
The main road between General Luna and Cloud 9 is well-maintained and heavily trafficked. The road north toward Pacifico is paved but narrower, with sections that become rougher past Burgos. Dirt tracks to beaches and hidden spots are generally passable on a scooter in dry conditions but can become slippery and dangerous in wet weather. Always ask locally before heading down an unfamiliar track.
Helmet Rules
Helmets are legally required and actively enforced on Siargao. Police checkpoints are common, particularly on the main tourism road and at the Dapa junction. A helmet is included with every Scooter Siargao rental โ always wear it, not just to avoid fines, but because accidents on scooters in Siargao are the leading cause of tourist injuries on the island.
Night Riding
We strongly advise against riding after dark. Most of Siargao's roads have no street lighting, and the combination of potholes, stray animals, and other riders without lights creates serious risks. Plan your rides to finish before sunset whenever possible.
Wet Weather
Siargao receives significant rainfall, especially during typhoon season (June to December). Roads become slippery quickly โ particularly on painted road markings, metal covers, and dirt sections. Slow down dramatically in the rain, increase your following distance, and consider waiting it out. Most rain showers on the island pass within 30โ45 minutes.
Fuel Stations
There are several fuel stations in and around General Luna and Dapa. Fuel costs around โฑ52โ72 per liter as of 2026. On a scooter, you'll typically get 40โ60km per liter, meaning a full tank covers the island's main routes easily. There are limited fuel options north of Burgos โ fill up before heading to Pacifico.
The Best Scooter Routes in Siargao
Route 1 โ General Luna to Cloud 9 (5 min)
The classic. A short ride south along Tourism Road brings you to the Cloud 9 boardwalk, home of the Philippines' most famous surf break. Park at the boardwalk and walk out to watch the waves โ or head to the jump-off point if you're paddling out. Best visited before 8am or after 4pm to avoid peak crowds.
Route 2 โ General Luna to Magpupungko Rock Pools (45 min)
Head north through the town center, past the Dapa junction, and continue along the coast road to Pilar and then Magpupungko. The ride itself is one of the island's most scenic โ coconut palms lining the road, glimpses of the ocean, and almost no traffic once you get past Dapa. Arrive during low tide (check tide tables before you go) for the famous natural swimming pools.
Route 3 โ General Luna to Pacifico (90 min)
The north coast road trip. This is the ride that separates Siargao from any other island in the Philippines. The road winds through rice paddies, fishing villages, and dense jungle before arriving at the remote beach of Pacifico โ powerful waves, almost no tourists, and the feeling of being at the end of the earth. The Honda Click 125 or Yamaha Fazzio handles this ride best.
Route 4 โ General Luna to Santa Fe (20 min)
Head southwest along the coast toward Santa Fe for some of the island's most beautiful scenery โ turquoise water on one side, palm trees on the other. Santa Fe is quieter than General Luna, with excellent seafood restaurants and a more local vibe. A perfect half-day ride.
Route 5 โ The Full Island Circuit (half day)
Start in General Luna, ride north to Magpupungko, continue to Pacifico, loop back through Del Carmen past the mangroves, and return south to General Luna. Around 120km total โ a full half-day adventure that covers the best of the island in one go.
Siargao Scooter Rental FAQ โ 2026
Can I ride a scooter in Siargao without experience?
If you've never ridden a scooter before, Siargao's quiet roads make it a reasonably forgiving place to learn. However, we strongly recommend practicing in a car park or quiet area before hitting the main roads. Automatic scooters are easier to handle than manual bikes โ all our fleet is fully automatic. If you're a complete beginner, consider a single-day rental first to build confidence before committing to a longer period.
Is scooter rental insured in Siargao?
Third-party insurance is standard on registered vehicles in the Philippines, but it provides minimal coverage. Your personal travel insurance is more important โ check your policy carefully, as many standard policies exclude motorbike accidents unless you hold a valid license. Always read the fine print before you ride.
What is the minimum rental period?
With Scooter Siargao, our minimum rental is 2 days. This allows us to offer free delivery and a genuinely good service without the operational pressure of one-day turnarounds.
Can I take the scooter to other islands?
No โ our scooters are for use on Siargao Island only and cannot be transported on boats to other islands. Island hopping trips (Naked Island, Daku, Guyam) are done by boat, not scooter.
What happens if the scooter breaks down?
Contact us immediately on WhatsApp. We'll dispatch assistance or a replacement scooter as quickly as possible. Breakdowns are rare with our regularly serviced fleet, but we're always reachable.
